Copper Red Glaze Recipes
Searching for red glazes for cone 10 reduction. I read the Tom Coleman article on Copper Reds and was inspired to increase my selection of reds.

The inspiration is available online at: http://www.studiopotter.org/articles/art0003.htm

Tom Coleman Vegas Red Glaze
Bright red to red-purple
(cone 10 reduction)

Barium Carbonate 2.55%
Dolomite 5.61%
Gerstley Borate 9.18%
Whiting 8.68%
Custer Feldspar 53.57%
EPK 2.55%
Silica 17.86%

add

Copper Carbonate 0.41%
Tin Oxide 2.04%
Titanium Dioxide 0.10%
Yellow Iron Oxide 0.10%
Zinc Oxide 1.02%

-----------------
Although it is fussy, I like Shinsha. Best on smoooth white clay like B-Mix or Porc. because if the reduction does not work perfectly, the glaze is high gloss clear (so a nice white on white clay.) Often I get the clear (white) with flecks and flashes of bright red. This color combo makes it great for x-mas presents.

SHINSHA
High Gloss Bright Red - Red Purple
Interesting color variations. Never flat color up close, even though it appears thouroughly red from any distance.
^10 reduction

Custer 2125
Flint 1485
Whiting 1050
Barium Carbonate 500 (poison, use caution)
Tin Oxide 200
EPK 150
Bone Ash 105
Copper Carbonate 100
Magnesium Carbonate 75

Copper Red

Cone 9-10 redux

from Giodano Andrew Voeks of Hawaii

NOTE:  They dont normally fire with gas in Hawaii because it is too expensive to ship over.  Reduction is either from an electric kiln with combustables added (yes replacement elements are cheeper than propane) or in wood fire.  So results in a gas kiln may vary.
