I may not be a teapot expert, but I have good results with long flange lids.  Teapots have to tip.  Makes lids fall off.  Solve the prob with a long flange.  It will go in and out straight.  Flange holds the lid on when the teapot is tipped.

I also learned to make a dimple of clay on the flange.  Catched the inside rim of the pot when pouring and lid does not fall off.  But he dimple chips.  I dont like chiped glaze in my tea. Long flange is better.
