In January, Heidi taught this workshop as part of our Educator Workshop series. It was so well received and there was so much interest, we asked her if she could teach it again for CAU members.
This workshop focusses on one project, sculpting a life sized self portrait in clay This is a hands-on learning experience that lays the foundation for portrait sculpture and teaching portrait sculpture.
Heidi has been working with clay for almost 20 years and has shown her work in Galleries throughout Utah, as well as in Portland, Scottsdale, and Washington State. She is a two time Utah Artist grant recipient and has been included in two major publications: Utah Art Utah Artists: 150 Year Survey, and Utah Painting and Sculpture. She recently completed an MFA at the University of Utah where she now teaches. She also teaches children ages 5 – 18 at the Visual Art Institute. Her large scale work primarily focuses on the human form in an emotive gesture.
“It is crucial to every artist to understand the human form. It is interesting to me that, although we look in the mirror every day, we don’t really see what we are looking at. It starts with basic anatomy – understanding our skeletal and muscular systems.”
