Non-Clay Handles

I refuse to try to reinvent the wheel here. People have been attaching bamboo handles to teapots and other forms for thousands of years.

Can someone tell me what shape I create in clay in order to attach such a handle after firing?

Any C or D or U shaped Coil or similar, that is attached perpendicular to the direction you want your handle to go. You can trim down the part of the handle that will go through such a shape attached to your piece, but give yourselfe 1/2 inch post firing size.
